Officials are shifting their focus on removing hazardous waste from properties affected by the wildfire in an attempt to make the area safe enough for residents to begin returning home.

The goal of the Kauai Nui Kuapapa project was to create a sense of connectedness and community among Kauai residents by empowering residents to become experts on the history, heritage, geography, and bounty of their particular place on the island.
